An old variety sometimes confused with Blenheim Orange, but it is considered sweeter and richer in flavour. Described in 1776 by Dutch botanist Knoop, thought to be French, its origin is uncertain.
Received an Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1914 under the name 'Winter Ribston' and in 1921 as 'Orleans Reinette'.
Creamy white flesh is firm, sweet, aromatic and juicy. There is an orange tang followed by a pleasant walnut taste.
