Huonville Crab was discovered growing wild in the Huon Valley by Bob Magnus of Huonville who suggests the tree may be a cross between an apple and a crab apple. Fruit flesh is red coloured, flowers a bright crimson and the fruit skin quite purple even the wood has red tints through it. Pleasant to eat, we regards it as one of the most attractive apple trees in our orchard and worth a place in the garden or farm for that reason alone.
