The very attractive small deciduous tree Bloodgood Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum atropurpureum 'Bloodgood') has rich burgundy tones when in leaf from spring to autumn. It may attain bronze colours in late summer before autumn leaf fall. Hanging winged crimson seeds add late summer features. This maple's size, slow growth and ability to tolerate full sun to part-shade makes it a handy garden and landscape tree especially for small gardens. Prefers shelter from wind and soil that is well-drained, moist and slightly acid.
